Music at Glenview

Glenview enjoys an active music program in a beautiful, resonant environment; a program that includes dynamic choral and congregational singing, instrumental solos and accompaniments on our beautiful Casavant pipe organ and Yamaha baby grand piano, musical contributions from many professional and amateur musicians in our congregation, and special concerts and other musical events throughout the year.

The fine acoustics and intimate atmosphere of our sanctuary appeal to musicians and ensembles who rent our sanctuary for their performances. See booking information.

Music Series

The “Music at Glenview” Sunday Evening Series began in the 2008-09 season. The hour-long concerts take place on Sunday evenings from 7:30pm to 8:30pm, with a reception following. Admission is free, with a freewill offering collected afterward. See the current season.

Choirs

Reflecting Glenview's traditions of excellence in worship and active social outreach, our choirs balance quality and accessibility. To accommodate many different age groups and commitment levels, we offer a variety of choral opportunities:

The Children's Choir welcomes boys and girls aged 7 to 13. The choir performs monthly from September to early June, with snack and rehearsal on Sundays after morning worship, around 11:45am to 12:30pm. The fun and fellowship of singing together is augmented by a monthly party/rehearsal on Friday evening, and other special events.

The Adult Choir consists of a dedicated group of musicians, including 4 professional soloists, who sing on Sunday mornings and special festivals from September to early June, with rehearsals on Thursday evenings from 7:30 pm to 9:30pm. As well as leading the congregational singing, the choir sings a variety of repertoire ranging from Renaissance to Contemporary.

The Seasonal Choir welcomes singers for the Christmas Eve and Easter services, and rehearses for approximately 5 weeks before each festival.

The Concert Choir presents a concert in March, with rehearsals on Thursday evenings from 9pm to 10pm beginning in January. Some additional rehearsals take place closer to the concert date.

You (and your friends) will find a warm welcome in any of these groups! For more information, please contact the Director of Music, Michael Bloss, via email or at 416-488-1156 x24

Organ

Our pipe organ, built by Casavant Frères of Quebec in 1930, began its life as a house organ at the home of W.W. Evans in Erindale, Ontario. It moved to North Parkdale United Church in 1945, and to Glenview in 1962. It was extensively refurbished in 1993 by the firm of Guilbault-Thérien. Its rich powerful sound, together with our enthusiastic choir, encourages our congregation to sing God's praises. See detailed specifications.
